A registered professional nurse employed on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSDU) of Erlanger Health System is responsib! le for direct and indirect care of patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures/surgery, invasive pulmonary procedures/surgery, and those experiencing acute myocardial infarction and/or cardiac rhythm disturbances.
Education:
Required: Graduate from accredited School of Nursing. Annual Erlanger Health System HLC courses.

Experience:
Required: Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.
Preferred: N\A
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Preferred: ACLS ! (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
Dep! artment Position Summary:
The RN on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and/or indirect care of patients undergoing cardiac and/or pulmonary procedures/surgery, as well as patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction and/or cardiac rhythm disturbances. The registered nurse must be able to assess and monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, as well as administer medications and assist with bedside procedures under the direction of EHS physicians. The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The employee must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to t! heir age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.
