Duties:
The Lead Medical Supply Technician (MST) of Supply, Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Section is responsible to thei! r supervisor for assuring that work assignments are carried out by SPS personnel for all work areas inside and outside of the SPS Section, which includes Decontamination, Instrument Preparation, Processing and Sterilization, and Distributions of sterilized items. The position demands a complete conceptual and practical working knowledge of all SPS functions regardless of where the reprocessing takes place within the medical facility of the centrally based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The Lead MST serves as direct liaison with supported activities including Surgery, Wards, Intensive Care Units, Clinics, Nuclear Medicine and all other supported service. Performs Quality Assurance that may include: Use of an electronic tray tracking system, which includes pictures, instructions training and competency information. Inspections that may include: instruments and equipment in the SPS area prior to the items being wrapped and sterilized, verifying that all instrumentation is disasse! mbled to the simplest form, insure that all instruments are cl! ean, in good working order, checking lock boxes, alignment, sharpness and general operation. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, guidelines, methods and standards to maintain a quality and effective SPS operation. The Lead MST gives formal training and orientation on material handling, sterilization techniques, operation of sterilizers, principles of packaging of sterile material, storage, correct sterilization and decontamination methods, safety, body mechanics, and quality assurance. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Evaluations
Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.
To qualify at the GS-7 you must posses at least one year of specialized experience related to the duties ! of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equi! valent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service.
If you are substituting education for experience you must have successfully completed one full year of graduate education in courses related to this position such as medical supply processing, storage and distribution, sterile supplies, operating room, and surgical technician courses; or other fields related to this position? This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
Or you can possess equivalent combinations of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described in 1 and 2 above to meet the total qualification requirements to qualify at the GS-7 level? (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
Specialized experience may include: experience in processing, assembling, troubleshooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and un-sterile medical supplies and equipment, knowledge of decontamination, cl! eaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers, etc
