Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00a - 4;30p
JOB SUMMARY:
Analyzes and translates! medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes. Codes records for use and planning for physician offices. Codes more complex procedures such as surgery coding and interventional radiology. Codes Evaluation and Management Services (E/M). Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Preferred: Two year degree in billing and coding from an accredited school.
Required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association)
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two to three years of coding experience.
Strong knowledge of medical and clinical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology.
Proficient skills in computer programs.
Attention to detail. !
Ability to understand and interpret policies, procedures a! nd medical charts.
Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to conduct tasks and assignments and contributes to team objectives and outcomes as guided.
