Job Summary:
The Registration Representative is responsible for registration of all scheduled, called in admissions, Outpatients, Same Day Surgery patients and Emergency patients.
Education:Required:
High School graduate or equivalent. Must be Certified Patient Account Representative certified within one year. HDX and MSP certified in six months.
Preferred:
HDX and MSP certification. Medical Terminology, Bi-lingual
Experience:Required:
Previous hospital registration and/or customer service experience. Previous clerical experience. Must possess above average communication skills, be able to interface appropriately with others of multiple ethnic and educational backgrounds. Must be computer literate and have word processing skills. Requires self-starter who can function efficiently in a demanding environment.
Preferred:
Two years hospital registration/business experience interfacing with customers on a daily basis. Broad knowledge of managed care and third party payors.

Department Position Summary:
Registration Representative must obtain accurate and efficient demographic and insurance information by obtaining copies of insurance cards, utilizing electronic verification and completing appropriate regulatory forms. He/She must be able to process large volumes of patients in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with departmental guidelines. Must maintain 98% accuracy rate according to departmental policy. Requires working knowledge of all registration areas. Must have ability to work closely in a clinical setting involving some stressful situations, personal flexibility; moderate sitting, standing, stooping, bending and moderate work at portable computers required. Registrar must be willing to work weekends, rotate shifts and holidays to cover departmental needs. He/She is responsible for collecting co-pays, deductibles, deposits and payments on accounts as required. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide interactive communications appropriate to the age of the patient being served. Type 35 wpm; proficient computer skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to relate well to people of a broad socio-economic mix. Must maintain and promote an attitude of professionalism as reflected by courteous actions, maintenance of confidentiality and appropriate presentation of self. Other responsibilities as assigned.
