Job Summary:

Blavity Inc. is seeking an Editor at Large (a W2, contract position) for 21Ninety to lead 21Ninety’s day-to-day operations and grow and manage 21Ninety’s editorial reach. This person will assign stories, conduct celebrity interviews, edit copy, advise on headlines and framing, and manage publishing schedules. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about women’s health & lifestyle and has had experience in commerce and content focused on the consumer journey.

This is a 6-month Editor at Large contract position with a target start date in August.

This role will report directly to the AVP, Consumer Media.

Contracted workers will be responsible for providing their own equipment, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, or any other electronic equipment required to perform their role.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the editorial calendar and collaborate with the team to execute engaging content ideas – keeping Blavity’s 21Ninety audience top of mind.
  • Supervise a team of writers by assigning a healthy balance of trending content and shoppable/affiliate articles per week.
  • Be the last line of defense for grammar, AP style, tone, structure, and brand voice.
  • Monitor site analytics to make sure KPIs and monthly traffic targets are met.
  • Be the face of the Brand, contributing to external Op-Eds or commentary on behalf of Black Women.
  • Collaborate with Social Production team to ensure content distribution is widely read and reaching new audiences.
  • Collaborate with Creative Design and Art Directors to ensure content is pushing the boundaries of representation within the home decor space.
  • Safeguard content to prevent infringements and guarantee that all information is accurate before distribution.
  • Partner with the AVP of Consumer Media and other Commerce leads on team goals while keeping business priorities at the forefront.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BA
  • Required Experience:
    • 5+ years experience with digital publishing, including producing commerce content
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Strong verbal and organization skills along with effective and appropriate written communication, including grammar and AP Style
    • Experience using affiliate platforms such as Skimlinks, Amazon Associates, and Rakuten
    • Experience with personal financial content or content that requires disclosures and compliance
    • Experience with SEO tools, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics.
    • A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new directives are identified
    • Open to new challenges and eager to grow within a fast-paced, evolving company
  • Technologies: Fluent in Google Suite, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite

Details:

  • This is a fully remote role, U.S.- based role. Occasional travel may be required.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Candidates must be available to work at least 80% in alignment to EST.
  • The hourly pay rate for this role is $35 - $48.
