Reforestation Coordinator

Job Summary
The reforestation coordinator focuses on facilitating the implementation and installation of all projects in Milwaukee County Parks and partner organizations on County owned property that are being maintained by Milwaukee County Parks. The reforestation coordinator’s objective is also to work internally and partner with external stakeholders’ efforts to intensify reforestation efforts.
Work Schedule: Employee must have availability to work days and weekends as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct field supervision of forestry restoration and manage reforestation projects conducted by County staff, contractors, and third parties on County-owned property whilst making sure that sensitive natural resources are protected and projects are implemented according to specifications.
- Hold community outreach events prior to project implementations and after completion of projects.
- Manage social media posts and respond to emails and phone calls, as well as information dissemination on the Milwaukee County Parks’ webpage.
- Assist with the undertaking of natural resource field assessments inclusive of flora and habitat surveys to determine project prioritization for critical species habitat management, species preservation, and potential for native species reintroductions.
- Perform all record keeping duties relevant to contracts, purchasing, reports, right-of-entry permits (ROE), state and federal permits, and requests for proposals (RFPs).
- Perform all other administrative duties associated with Wisconsin DNR and EPA requirements.
- Serve as a point of contact for all Area of Concern (AOC) third party project requests on Milwaukee County Parks’ properties.
- Develop Ecological Restoration and Management Plans for Milwaukee County Parks’ properties within the Area of Concern (AOC).
- Prepare inspection reports, permits, and the enforcement of County standards.
- Review plans, drawings, specifications, as well as built project designs and cost estimates.
- Participate in on-the-ground implementation of Parks’ ecological restoration projects such as invasive species removal, wildlife habitat management, reforestation, prairie establishment, and all other land management duties as directed by the Natural Areas Coordinator.
- Use of Equipment, Tools and Machinery – Operate vehicles, motorized equipment, and land management equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Sciences or closely related field required.
- At least one (1) year or more work experience in Natural Sciences or Natural Resource Management required.
- At least one (1) year or more of work experience in a Supervisory or Management role required
- GIS certification preferred.
- Previous program management experience preferred.
