SUMMARY:
The Product Development Engineer II performs product design activi! ties and coordinates production of prototypes for Product Development of Medical Devices .
Provides technical support to the sales, marketing and manufacturing efforts of the division.
Additionally, the Product Development Engineer II will become more involved with strategic development/planning direction.
Will also be responsible for design and development of products from initial concept through first production runs with little to no supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.
Consults with the marketing staff, sponsoring surgeons, and manufacturing staff, as required, to facilitate proper design or products.
2.
Acts as a consultant on the design of special products.
3.
Prepares design drawings and acts as a co! nsultant in the preparation of final drawings.
4.
Coordinates and provides technical assistance in the production of prototypes.
5.
Initiates, performs as needed, and reviews in-house mechanical product (implant and/or instrument) testing in support of product design, regulatory submissions, manufacturing, quality, and sales support.
6.
Initiates, performs (non-surgical), and reviews surgical or cadaveric product testing in support of product design and sales support.
7.
Provides technical expertise for manufacturing, quality, marketing and sales, as directed.
8.
Travels, as required, for professional meetings or in association with product development or technical activities, which includes providing technical surgeon advice and key participant in surgeon design meetings
9.
Leads or co-leader of product development and programs.
10.
Works with the in-house legal department, outside legal consultants, and Gover! nment Patent Officials, as required, on patent searches, patent infringements, and patent applications and acts as technical expert on all design related materials and provides strategic analysis for continued direction.
11.
Coordinates and evaluates outside or independent laboratory testing on S&N products or competitive products.
12.
Developes technical documents, training programs, and technical presentations for customers and/or the sales force.
13.
Provides surgeons training through technical presentations, sawbone demonstrations, and VIP tours, etc.
14.
Has overall authority/approval of design reviews, first article inspection reports, product design, deviations, and CR/ELO.
SCOPE OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITES
For Funds, Costs or Profits:
Responsible for sourcing material and supplies within budgetary amounts.
For Supervision:
Provides performance/beh! avioral feedback to manager on lower level engineers and drafters/desig! ners.
For Internal and External Responsibilities:
Establishes relationships with key customers, researchers and vendors to conduct product development activities.
For Organization Influence:
Greater level of input towards strategic direction of product and business related decisions with a reduced level of tactical decision making.
Sign off approval of design reviews, first article inspection reports, product design, deviations, ECR/ECO.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelorâs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or other related engineering field plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience in orthopaedic product development or related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient experience with 3D CAD software packages such as Unigraphics, Solid Works or Pro-Engineer.
