The Mountain Home VA Healthcare System is seeking an immediate fill for full-time Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians to serve at the VA Commu nity Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC) located in Sevierville, Tennessee. The physicians at this facility report directly to the Chief, Primary Care and Community Medicine at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home (Johnson City), Tennessee. The physicians are charged with providing outpatient-only primary care for eligible Veterans in the area. The required skill-set includes current Primary Care clinical proficiency, willingness to be part of a healthcare team and willingness to encourage teamwork, the ability to implement new healthcare initiatives and maintain high standards of performance. A broad working knowledge and experience with VA policies and procedures is desirable, but not mandatory. VA Primary Care providers are responsible for coordinating all aspects of the patients' care, making referrals to specialists, ordering procedures, ordering and monitoring all medications, and handling all of their patients' acute care needs.

Work Schedule: The tour of duty at this facility is primarily Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM until 4:30 PM. This tour can be temporarily changed to serve the needs of the facility, and may include occasional rotations on Saturday. Tour changes are at the discretion of the Chief, Primary Care and Community Medicine, or designated management official.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicin e or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • English Language Proficiency. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Preferred Experience: (1) Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related field; (2) Experience working in a VA facility.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: Physicians should be physically and mentally capable to perform the examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan, and educate residents. Physical activity include s sitting, standing (up to 2 hours at a time), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 lbs or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. Physicians should be emotionally and mentally stable and capable of performing the duties of the position.
