The Mountain Home VA Healthcare System is seeking a well qualified General Surgeon with innovative leadership skills, and excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrates a positive team spirit to join our staff within the Surgical Service. The position reports to the Chi! ef of Surgery. The incumbent will be responsible for performing duties in the inpatient and outpatient ambulatory settings for new and established patients. Surgeries routinely performed are hernia repairs, laparoscopic and open cholecystectomies, small bowel operations, appendectomies, hemorrhoidectomies, removal of skin lesions, and assorted minor procedures with limited trauma. He/she is expected to follow each patient though the full continuum of care to include admitting, discharging, performing histories and physicals, assisting in the full coordination of diagnostic tests and procedures prior to surgery, educating and counseling of the patient and family members. Ability to perform upper and lower GI endoscopies is an asset. Special skills in the area of laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgical procedures are desirable. The General Surgeon will adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of orders, operation reports, discharge summaries, progress no! tes, clinical reminders, and performance measures. The incumbent, with ! faculty appointment at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Quillen College of Medicine, will be responsible for the supervision and training of surgical and non-surgical residents, medical students, and allied health professional trainees, in order to retain the clinical appointment through the Depart of Surgery ETSU Quillen College of Medicine Education Program. The entire Medical Center utilizes an electronic medical record system, which requires that all physicians be or become computer literate. An active and unrestricted license in any state is required. Previous experience in a VA with an university affiliation is preferred.
Work Schedule: On-call rotation after hours/weekends

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Citizenshi! p. Citizen of the United States.(Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
- Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Licensure and Registration . Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
- Physical Standards . Must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others . !
- English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, app! ointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
1. Past or present faculty appointment in an approved medical school or
2. Completion of an accredited residency in the specialty area to which the individual is being assigned or in a realted area, or
3. Current eligibility to sit for the board certification examination in the specialty area to which the individual is being assigned or in a related area, or
4. Comparable achievements in clinical, educational, or administrative or research activities.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
(1) Previous experience in a VA with a university affiliation is preferred.
(2) Ability to perform upper and lower GI endoscopies is an a! sset.
(3) Special skills in the area of laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgical procedures is desirable.
(4) Active laparoscopic priviledges preferred.
